Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel! Today we talk about the suburbs "stare gerundio". But before starting, what is a periphrosis? A periphery is an expression composed of two or more constituents that come together to give a unique meaning expression. In the case of "stare gerundio", the two constituents are two verbal forms. To use this expression we must know the conjugation of the verb "stare" to the present, because in this video let's talk about how to use this expression to the present. Take, for example, the verb "to write": I am writing, you are writing, he / she is writing, we are writing, you are writing, they are writing. The gerund of the verb write and invariable therefore we must to worry only about combining the verb stare well. "Stare gerundio" is used for talk about what happens in the present, at the very moment when the action is announced. Now I'm talking and you are listening. These two actions they are happening when we speak. For this reason, we can say that this perifrasi is used to express the present progressive. What are you doing right now, right now? At present we can use this periphrase also to talk about an action of character durative, which however is not strictly linked to the moment of enunciation, as we have seen before. For example: I can say "I'm reading an interesting book" and "I'm watching a funny TV series"; with these sentences I can also refer to an action which takes place in the present, but not necessarily the moment I speak, then to a more prolonged present. This because? Why actions like reading a book or watching a tv series are held in a longer and longer time frame, it is more action prolonged in the present. The same goes for the phrase "I'm following a design course"; it is clear that you are not following the course as you say this, but it is something you are doing at the moment. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below. Thank you so much for watching this lesson and, if you liked it, put a thumbs up because this helps my channel.
