Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel. We are in the midst of the holidays. Today is December 30th, the next to last day of December In this period, we find ourselves giving many wishes to people and at the same time we find ourselves receiving many wishes. So today I would like to do a brief lesson on how to respond to the wishes. I have my notes here that we will now look at together. The responses that I will tell you, that I will teach you in this video are some responses that you could use to respond to any wish, not only for those of Christmas or New Year's. But it is also for other types of wishes, as we will see later. All except for birthday wishes. Because, obviously, if one is giving birthday wishes, "Happy Birthday", the other person responds only "thank you". He doesn't wish "Happy birthday to you too", because it isn't your birthday. So, these responses apply to all the wishes, except for birthdays. There are mainly three ways to respond to wishes. The first is "to you", but can also be "to you"(plural) or "to you"(formal). So "to you" is if we are familiar, "to you"(plural) is if we're speaking to a group of people, "to you"(formal) if instead we are formal with the other person. Alternatively, we can respond "also to you", "also to you"(plural) or "also to you"(formal). Another option is to respond "equally/same to you". "Altrettanto" is a great response to use. It gives the impression that you know Italian well. "Altrettanto" is a very beautiful word, I like it a lot. Sometimes we can also add, for example "also to you and your family", so we can add this part if we want to include also the family of the person in the wish. We we can say "to you and family" or "also to you and family". Another wish that we can make in this period is "Happy Holidays!". How do we respond to this "Happy Holidays"? We use the information that we have said before, but here we add also a "thank you". So, "thank you, happy holidays to you", "thank you, happy holidays also to you", "thank you, same to you". Then here what did I do? Here I added "thank you" and I repeated the wish, so this is a good solution. Then, we see another example:" Happy New Year". Happy new year to you, happy new year to you (plural), happy new year to you (formal). Happy new year also to you, happy new year also to you (plural), happy new year also to you (formal). "Same to you!" You see, "altrettanto" always stays alone. We use "altrettanto" alone or together with "thank you". So, the responses to the wishes are: To you. Also to you. Same to you. What are these wishes? As we said before, all these wishes except birthday wishes. Other examples of wishes are these: Happy Holiday! Merry Christmas! Happy Easter! Have a nice rest! Good day! Good evening! Enjoy watching! when we watch, for example, a film. And "Have fun!" Okay? These are some examples of wishes. And these are the responses that we can use to respond. Then, this was today's brief lesson. I hope that it is useful for you and I hope that you have learned new things today too.
