Nature's Way Standardized Valerian Extract, 90-Count Bottle (Pack of 3)

Valerian is an herb that is well known for helping with relaxation, insomnia and for the relief of anxiety. I had not tried valerian before and I was looking for something (non-alcoholic) to occasionally help me ease into sleep from a busy day. The effect that I feel from two capsules is that of mild soothing relaxation. I would not say that it makes me very sleepy, just that it helps allow sleep to occur. Upon waking, I do not feel any of the grogginess as if I had taken an antihistamine based sleeping pill.

This product was sold as a pack of three containers of 90 capsules. The capsules each contain 800mg of Valerian root and 220mg of 0.8% valerian extract. Some other brands contain very little of the active ingredient, so check carefully.

Valerian root has a very pungent odor, but I did not find the capsules to be offensive as some have described the various tinctures and teas that are available. I thought that it had a bit of a grape or berry odor.

While I can not compare this with other valerian products, I can say that this product does have a relaxing effect for me and appears to contain enough active ingredient to be nicely potent.
