Merriam-Webster's Pocket Dictionary (Pocket Reference Library)

It's great, so small and light. I can take it anyway. Fast delivery too.

We bought this dictionary for our son going into 7th grade this coming fall. It was a recommendation from the school...easy enough. The way I see it, if a school approves its use then it must be a viable contender.

The size is perfect, not too heavy and a little shorter in length then a paperback. Fits in an small pocket of the backpack so its always with them when they need it...

I think that this is a good size dictionary to take around with you. It has nearly all the words you can think of packed inside this one book. I would recommend this to the people who wants to have a dictionary at their finger tips at all times...

This dictionary is much smaller than expected. The descriptions are very brief. Big disappointment.

Yes, as others point out, this has fewer words than a full-sized Collegiate dictionary. Duh! However, this is the only dictionary on Amazon that actually fits in your pocket. That, to me, is the definition of a "pocket dictionary." It has the expected number of words and the right form factor for a "pocket dictionary." (It's about the size of a Blackberry.)

And here's something obvious: If you are an adult writer doing serious writing, you should have a serious dictionary, not a "pocket dictionary." However, if you need a dictionary (for whatever reason) that you can put in your pocket, then this one is just fine. I speculate that it is also perfect for younger writers, whether or not they choose to put it in a pocket.
