**SPOILERS BELOW**
Loving the ending, although I wish we had an actual wedding, or rather, an elopement, than just a certificate. I wish they'd tell at least someone, but at least they're married. I have to say, I never thought Lizzie/Chaz would make a good couple--until I read the exerpt for the book. They are so much better than her and Luke, who really is just great looking and didn't give her any freedom, responsibility, or anything. Chaz is outpsoken and has his morals and beliefs and he sticks to them. He's all around a better, sweeter guy, and I'm really glad they ended up together. The character of Ava Geck was the most annoying thing in the universe. I really didn't see Tiffany ending up pregnant, that was too random to be plausible. Loved that Lizzie finally got her own place. Really didn't like that Gran died, that was sad, but again, somewhat predictable. *sigh* Those two lines, "I think I'm in love with my fiance's best friend" "So, I've got it worse, I'm in love with my best friend's fiance" were just the sweetest line sin the entire book. Chaz, you adorable sap! Loved it overall. Wish there was a sequel or at least an epilogue, a peek into what married life was like for them, and if it lasted. I just think that with all this stuff about marriage, she at least deserved a wedding. I suppose Meg might have done it like this for the irony, but I don't think it worked all that well. Lizzie needed her own wedding, darn it! Ah well. Still amazing <3 Good riddance to Luke. Chaz's phone call to him was PRICELESS. Wish we'd seen more of Shari and more of her thoughts on the Lizzie/Chaz hookup, since she and Chaz claimed to be such close friends, wouldn't she have a much, much stronger reaction? Love love love. *wants a sequel* Oh, and one last thing, I dislike the title. She DOESN'T get hitched, at least not through the course of the book. Meg really should have picked a more fitting title, more about choice than marriage. 2008-07-04
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() amusing
Having broken up with her boyfriend Luke, Lizzie Nichols was spending time with his best friend Chaz. However, Luke misses his Lizzie so he comes to New York to see her. To her shock he places an engagement ring on her finger. Perhaps it is the jolt of the diamonds on her finger, but she accepts though she remains attracted to Chaz.
Chaz does not want to lose his Lizzie. He pleads with her that Luke is an egomaniac who wants her because he had lost her and that he could never love her like he does. Feeling pulled in two directions as Chaz wants to marry her and remain in New York to teach; Luke wants to marry her and return with her to Paris as a banker. Either city would do for the wannabe designer, but right now a tale of two cities is giving Lizzie hives. The last Queen of babble tale (see QUEEN OF BABBLE and QUEEN OF BABBLE IN THE BIG CITY) is a fresh entry as Lizzie feels like the rope in a tug of war between two supposed best friends who trash the other to her. The amusing story line captures the essences of the three Yuppies through their humorous intelligent repartee. Fans of the series will appreciate the direction Meg Cabot takes her heroine towards while newcomers will relish the jocular escapades. Harriet Klausner 2008-07-03
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A Real Woman--Strong Yet Vulnerable
I really like Lizzie, and although I couldn't completely relate with her, I still thought she was developed enough for me to really care about her. Taking off from Queen of Babble in the Big City, we find that Chaz has now entered the romantic scene as another love interest to foil the happy ending with Luke, the guy who looks great on paper. Throughout this book and the previous, it is obvious that the chemistry between Luke and Lizzie is a little lacking (look at that alliteration!). It has always felt as though Luke cared about no one but himself, not really. He's nice, he does and says the "right" things in general, and yet he has little true character to keep you connected to him, and feels flat and lacking in emotion. He panics when needed, but does he really have the depth to love someone as passionate about all things dealing with love as Lizzie? She's independent, yet girlie, and I thoroughly loved reading about a girl that was both. Thanks Meg for showing once again that women CAN BE BOTH! In a world that looks at feminists as unfeminine, I think Lizzie portrays just one type of strong woman that pushes the bounds of what we expect--she's not weak, and yet she is vulnerable at times. Wow! She's human! The focus stays on Lizzie, and not Luke and Chaz, which I think works well. Such a fun way to end the trilogy. 2008-07-02
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() somewhat of a let -down
I was so looking forward to the third installment of the series. I loved this character from the first and second books so much and was eager to see her story evolve more. I was dissapointed in several points but do not want to give the plot away. The ending was OK, but the getting there threw in too many curveballs with what I felt were unrealistic responses by Lizzy and some of the other characters. Ending felt rushed too. Shari was almost non-existant in this book and prior to this was her best friend. Overall it seemed way too laisez-faire about some things most women would not take lightly and without giving anything away, there seemed to be something lacking. Read it, just get it from the library first. 2008-07-02
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great wrap-up, but still thirsty for more!
When I read the first QoB novel, I was a little leery of the fact that Ms. Cabot was planning more in this series. Initially, I found the ranting of our heroine, Lizzie Nichols, to be a little over-the-top and slightly tiresome after several pages. However, by this novel I feel that Lizzie has hit her stride and I am now completely in love with her. I love the plot twists (though, we should really admit to ourselves that "twist" is a bit of a stretch whenver considering the outcome here...) and shenanigans of all the characters in this series who are now like family to me. I think that this third installment is a fine wrap-up, but I have to admit - If there were a petition lobbying for more Queen of Babble, I'd sign it in a heart beat! 2008-07-01
