The Latvian language helper has been designed to give beginners and travelers a basic vocabulary of words and phrases.

Just like a phrase book the language helper has been organized into category's. You choose the area of conversation you want to learn, then pick out the phrases you need to know.

What makes this better than a phrase book is that each word is broken up into easy to say pieces, the same way your primary school teacher explained english words to you as a child, this will help you to pronounce the words correctly. Every phrase is accompanied by an audio recording, you will hear the phrase spoken by a native Latvian.

The combination of sound and learning methods found in the Language Helper will give you the confidence to talk to Latvians in real life situations.

The Latvian language helper is made up of two parts.

The Basics:

Alphabet - you begin by learning how each letter in the alphabet sounds, and then are shown a word example for each letter.

Numbers - you can choose between cardinal (1,2,3,4....) or ordinal (1st, 2nd, 3rd...) numbers. The numbers are displayed out in an easy to see format. By rolling your mouse over the number you will be shown how to write the word, and how to say the word (with easy to say pieces), by clicking a number you will hear how a native would say it.

Day's of the week, Months of the year, Seasons, Colours - contain words and basic phrases. Each word and phrase is shown in an easy to say format, and by clicking on the word or phrase you can listen to how a native would say the words.

The phrases area has six categories. Each category contains an index, from which you can choose the words and phrases you want to learn.

The Latvian talking clock has been designed to teach you how to say and recognize the time in the Latvian language.

The practice button will allow you to choose the hour and minutes you want to learn. You will be shown the phrase as it would be written and also with each word broken up, to help you pronounce the words correctly. By clicking the minute button you will hear how to say the phrase.

You can set the talking clock to tell you the time every 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. Because you will be told the time at regular intervals you will become familiar with the sounds and phrases and it will not be long before you are naturally telling the time in the Latvian language.
