I bought these for my son, and he loves them! They work from a long distance, and he uses them while we are in the grocery store, and other venues. And I can hear him clearly.

Very adequate
I don't know if these radios have anywheres near the advertised distance - but for our purpose (upstairs, downstairs, house to garage) they are great. The clarity is good, speak about 10-12" in a normal tone and enunciation. Out of the charger holder, and in the on position, they're good for all day, unless you are a lengthy chatterbox. For the money, nearby communication is convenient and at a reasonable cost.
