I couldn't be happer with this TV. Everything about it is great; over the air antenna looks great, and blu-ray is jaw-dropping. Planet Earth on this set is something to behold. Colors are excellent, and very customizable. I was very pleased that TV settings are source-specific, and the TV remembers what you have set.
Regular DVD's look awesome; I never knew there was so much detail and color in a regular DVD. Wii: experienced some lag; but, this was fixed by choosing the 'game mode' for that particular source. The picture is indeed worse using game mode, but the lag was fixed. This was where remembering settings in a source-specific way was extremely convenient. The integration with the Samsung home theater is a little weak, but perhaps I haven't figured it out yet. Noticed a bit of image retention after leaving a static display up for about 20 minutes and got worried, but it was gone an hour later. I still need to run the break-in DVD. For $900, I don't see how one can beat this TV. 2009-01-02
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Samsung PN50A450 50-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV - WOW!
This TV is amazing. I was always iffy about buying a plasma that was 720p vs all the hype for the 1080p. Boy was I wrong! I have a 1080p in my bedroom and the new Samsungs picture is just as good when watching HDTV and blueray movies through my PS3. The audio was not the greatest (to be expected, hence not giving it 5 stars), but I was not to worried about it since I hooked it up to a Harmon Kardon reciever and Boston Acoustic sorround. I could not be happier with this television. I bought mine on warehouse deals for $850 shipped and even after buying my sorround sound (on AMAZON ofcourse)I still saved about $500 aver the Samsung 1080p 50" model available at my local BestBuy. 2008-12-30
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent HDTV
I purchased my Samsung Plasma HDTV almost a year ago. I have no regrets whatsoever. People complain about glare problems with plasma TV's, but I don't see what the problem is. I've had no burn in at all, but Samsung has incorporated an option that will clear any burn in.
Yes, it is 720, but that isn't a problem. At the proper viewing distance for this size HDTV, the human eye cannot detect the difference between 720 and 1080. I read an excellent article on this when I was doing my HDTV research and it agreed with what I (vaguely) remembered from Human Perception in graduate school. Here is a recent article on the issue, skip to #9.[...] The only problem I've had is that the Plasma does put out a bit of heat. Unfortunately, my HVAC thermostat is on the same wall as the TV. The thermostat picks up the heat coming off the plasma, thinks the house is that hot, and will freeze you out. The easy answer is to put the TV on a different wall, or mount it with the top edge higher than the thermostat (remember, hot air rises). The whole 1080 issue is a marketing gimmick in HDTV's 50" or less. Don't hesitate to buy this HDTV, you will have no regrets. 2008-12-27

For under $1000, this tv is a bargain. The picture is absolutely amazing. The preset color options for viewing different types of programs is a nice plus. The sound options for the simulated surround sound is pretty good also. A lot of options with the tv, but what it comes down to is picture quality. In hi-def, definitely a great pictures. No issues with blurred images due to refresh rate and the color is amazing. We've had the tv for about 2 months now with about 6 hours of viewing each day. No burn in issues or ghost issues. 2008-12-24
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent TV for a great price!!!!
I've had this TV for about 2 weeks now and I couldn't be happier. I researched this purchase for a long time and I saw all of the concern that people had with IR and burn in with this model. I honestly don't know how they are having an issue because I'm not at all and I've tried to create IR on purpose!!! I left ESPN on for an hour to see if the bottom scroller would leave an image and nothing!! I think the people who are having IR issues are running the TV in standard or dynamic mode with the contrast and brightness set too high. Use movie mode and keep the contrast and brightness down and I bet you don't have any issues.
My in-laws have the 40" Samsung 1080P 120hrz LCD and this TVs pictures is way better IMHO. Don't buy into the 1080P hype.... 2008-12-22
