A good little unit. However, the tuning knob is so sensitive that it makes locking in a station difficult. Overall good though. 2009-01-06
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I like this better than the more expensive models
I tend to listen to the radio when I'm in bed. My wife goes to sleep quicker so I have to keep the light off for her. The rotary tuner makes it very convenient to fine tune. Good radio for the price. 2009-01-06
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Wasn't as expected!
I picked this radio after many hours of going over reviews. When I openned the package it felt cheap! The band selector moved up and down with too great of easy. Didn't know which band I was in. Am reception was good. FM reception was excellent. Shortwave reception was terrible in my house, regardless of the room I went to. The reason I returned it was that it would not shut off. I had to remove the batteries to shut it off!
Now looking for a portable shortwave radio again. 2008-12-28
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Nice radio for the size and price
There are a minor few things to note about this nice little radio. First, I ordered an M300BR which was supposed to be a metallic bronze color, but for the life of me, it looks matte black. I've shown the radio to others and they all say it is black. I noted on the Eton/Grundig web site that they only offer it now in 3 colors and metallic bronze is not one of them. The outside of the box is clearly marked M300BR. The color is not a deal breaker, and I am keeping the radio.
Also, this radio does not include batteries (my box was factory sealed). Not a biggie, but important to know so you don't get caught without batteries. What it does include is a nice little carry case with a belt loop, a wrist strap, and a pair of bare bones but handy stereo ear buds. The packaging is quite nice, so if you are giving this as a gift, it will make a nice presentation. This is the perfect travel radio. It takes almost no weight, and almost no space. I like the feel of the somewhat rubbery surface. It will not easily slip from your hand. I've played with it and even though the tuning wheel requires a light touch, it is accurate and works well. There is plenty of volume to listen comfortably to the external speaker. The FM is stereo with the earphones only. I live in a very RF noisy environment and the radio performed quite well considering its price and size. I had no problem tuning in sw, mw and fm though the tuning dial does take a light touch. There is a handy sw band chart on the back of the radio. While there are not separate sw band numbers on the LCD display, with the chart and looking at the frequency, it is pretty easy to tell where you are. Also the band switch lined up well with the band markings, at least on my unit. The antenna fully extended reaches approximately 22 inches beyond the main body of the radio. It is clearly marked FM/SW. It made a big difference in getting stereo for more distant FM stations. It is a must for SW listening. Having what amounts to a small clock radio makes this perfect for both domestic and world travel, especially if you prefer to travel light. I was able to figure out how to set the clock and alarm without opening the instructions which is good because who carries instructions with them? Be forewarned, you will have to reset the clock when you change batteries, but it is really easy and fast to set the time so unless you have no watch to set it from, it is not a problem. I give it five stars because it is perfect for its intended use -- a small, light, inexpensive travel radio. I've seen nothing else quite like it for the price. 2008-12-24
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent! beats the competition easily
A truly fantastic small package. If you want a true appreciation of this radio - compare it to the competition for price, performance, size, weight and capability. Quiet simply this radio wins easily (for this size catagory).
FM Stereo with head phones, FM, AM, Short Wave. Easy to use clock radio. Sleep timer that shuts off the radio after an hour Perfect for travel or anywhere you would use a small radio. Loud enough to use around the home. Of course it has a small speaker so the sound quality is not hi fidelity of course. But is is defiantly useable. I am a ham radio operator and users should understand Short Wave DRIFTS even on radios costing thousands of dollars. A digital radio with an analog tune knob is a blessing for short wave. It saves you thousands of button pushes that are so common on radios that are not as well thought out. You can improve the Short Wave reception by attaching a 30ft length of thin wire with an aligator clip to the antenna. Just string the wire in a tree or hotel room and this radio or any other short wave will have a much better antenns and it will pull in the stations. In this day and age I would not travel without this radio. That includes hotels, airports, camping, beach etc. If I have access to a radio with a larger speaker like a Tivoli Pal I use it. If not I always have the Gurundig Mini 300. If you want a true appreciation of this radio - compare it to the competition (in a similar size radio) for price, performance, size, weight and capability. Quiet simply this radio wins. Runs a long time on 2 AA batteries 2008-12-24
