![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Good for over a year and a half, but then...
I got mine about 2 years ago. This model was the RD2762B; which, I guess, already has a firmware upgrade pre-installed on it. Reading most of the other reviews I'd have to say I was lucky to have mine last as long as it did. I can only think of 2 times where I might have had any shock to it from dropping it. When it died I knew... "File System Corrupted" came up every time I powered it on. I've heard that is due to the sensitivity of the hard drive. A couple of months before this happened I did have some trouble with it profiling. It would take a very long time and would finally finish. When I'd go the usual route to play the music files I had on it - It would ask me to Profile the contents (which should have already been done). So, I'd have to go through it's menu/system folders to get to my music. The other (normal) way usually has the songs arranged by Artist, or Genre, etc.
I really liked this player and felt I got a decent run for what I paid for it (+$180.00 after taxes). But this was the 2nd RCA MP3 player I bought (after the RD1021A). I bought this mainly for it's recharge-ability (and not going through so many AAA batteries!), and of course the "profiling" and the 4 MBs worth of memory space. I won't gripe about the controls too much. I thought they were good and intuitive, not perfect 100% of the time but... Song selection with the wheel, as well as volume control seemed quick and responsive. I might've had more trouble with the control stick in the middle, but not too much. I'll miss this player because it was good while it lasted. But again I'll say that I must've been lucky to have mine last as long as it did. Either that or I was very careful with it. As with most things - If you take care of it - it will last you a long(er) time. (Maybe!) I do love the deep/shiny red color! In conclusion: I highly doubt I will look towards RCA again in making any MP3 player purchases. Try another brand -or better yet!.... One with another storage format such as one with a (compact?) flash memory. One bad shock to those little hard drives and it's kaputski! <:-/ 2008-12-30

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() don't like this product
I had gotten my rca lyra at wallmart, no damage in the packaging, looked good, I got it home, It lasted a month, I dropped it 3 times, and the third time it messed up and starting saying files corrupted and file error. Something came loose in its hard drive, and I couldn't get it to work again, do not buy! 2008-04-14
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't say you weren't warned if you choose to buy Rca's mp3
RCA does not stand behind is product! I bought an MP3 that they admit is DEFFECTIVE but they will charge me $62 for a replacement when I paid $59 for it at a local store! And no there products are NOT Vista compatible. They don't have any other alternative drivers or software for vista at this point. But I found a way around that to find out that the Mp3 player itself is deffective. Spent an hour on the phone with customer service and she told me I should send it back but I would have to pay more to replace it than I paid for it new! There customer service also informed me I wasn't the only one with these problems! STAY AWAY FROM RCA!!!! I had a similar thing happen some years ago with an rca VCR! 2008-04-11
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last only one year, then boom!
I have always bought RCA. This is the first of thier prouducts that failed after one year.
It worked great, easy to download music. It sounds great too! But... after one year, the battery went out. I called for repairs and the warrenty went out 2 months earlier. The cost, 99.95 to fix, not including S & H. The Lyra is made by a company named Thompson. They really don't care about customer service or a lasting product. It still works as long as I keep it plugged into the charger. But then whats the point of having it? Sorry, but I won't buy another. Now I'm planning on a 8 or 30 gig Zune. 2008-01-26
