Needs more power
I bought this system cause I own a Sony HDTV and figured Sony compatability would make things easier to work with. It took me about 2 hours to get everything up and running....was a little more complicated than I thought it would be. Everything works: DVD player to TV; FM tuner (AM tuner, although I seldom listen to AM is still not working properly...tons of static)and TV surround sound. The only (and major drawback as far as I can concerned) is that you have to practically max out the volume on the receiver to get decent surround sound. I have to go all the way up to 32 (max volume)and when I go to the middle volume setting (around 15 or so), I can hardly hear anything! I invited a geek friend of mine over to take a look at the connections. We tried everything: HDMI, component cables, digital optical chord, rca cables (red/white) through every possible connectivity and still, the volume had to maxed out to get quality surround sound.
I have not decided whether or not I am going to keep this system. I have been to other people's homes where mid range volume produces great sound.

Bravia DAV-HDX589W Home Theater System
Just purchased this home theater system ("HTS") to compliment my recently purchased Sony Bravia 46KDLW5100 LCD TV and my Sony Bravia BDP-360 Blu-Ray player. All I can say is, WOW! This was the first time I have ever purchased/owned a HTS and I am blown away. Set-up was easy (if you can follow simple instructions), the sound is incredible, and the system overall looks wonderful. Since I already had a Blu-Ray player hooked up to my TV via HDMI cable from the player to the TV, I decided to run a digital optical cable from the HTS receiver to the TV in order to get sound when watching Blu-Ray movies. It works perfectly and the cord was only 7 bucks or so. *Please Note* You will most likely need to go into your audio settings menu on your Blu-Ray player/TV to adjust a setting or two to make sure the sound is coming through at full volume i.e. I had to go to the audio settings on my Blu-Ray player and switch the BD audio to "Direct" in order to get the full sound coming through to the speakers.
Overall, the system is an incredible value for the money and if you purchase this system, you surely will not be disappointed.
