![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Small Sharp System - Big Sound
This a compact system which fits in a small space, but produces a big sound. You can load up the five dics and have hours of the kinds of music you enjoy. This is basically a positive review, but a few small problems shoud be noted. The MP3 system can only be used with an I-Pod. There is no obvious way to adapt to another type of player, such as my Samsung. The other small problem is that the tuner presets can only be reached in sequence, especially on the remote, and as there are forty of them, it can be a problem navigating through them. It is a lot of sound for a relativeely small price and is very enjoyable. 2010-03-05

How to rate this Sharp CD DK891N, 5 stars, 3, or 2?
If you looking for anything that will handle all of the inputs this unit does and you don't care how well it's done then this is a 5 star hands down. But if you do care then this is maybe 3 stars. Seems like cheap construction. You will need to be gentle with it; but then you aren't going to be taking it to the beach. I did not even try all of the features because I didn't get past the tape deck. Deck one does not do anything other than play forward and stop. No fast forward, no rewind. Deck two does have fast forward and rewind but neither will play in reverse. But still it will play from iPod, CDs, AM/FM, and tape. Still good enough and not a lot of money. So why only 2 stars? Well, that would be because it will not handle anything but low quality tape. No CrO2!!!!! Called Sharp to confirm, CrO2 or high bias will damage the tape heads of this deck over time. So.....Well the only reason to be looking for a tape deck in this day of CDs and iPods is that you have a boat load of old cassettes left over from years ago. Mine are all CrO2 tapes. So I can't use this thing. Other things to consider are the size of this unit. And that they want 4 in. of space on all sides for ventilation. Speaker wires are about 3 and 1/2 feet long and you can not replace them. If you want them farther away from the unit you will have to splice them. Controls are less than wonderful but you can get by with them. Some things can only be done from the remote like set the time and turn or off the bass boost. Oh and one other thing...When you first turn on this unit it goes into "demo" mode flashing all the things it can do on it's screen.....over and over and over and, well you get the idea. This goes off when you are playing something but comes back whenever it is idle. You can only turn this off from the remote. Do not unplug this thing if you ever lose the remote! It will demo all day and all night....God help you if it's in your bedroom! So all in all, this machine does a lot for a low price (5 stars), doesn't do them very well (3 stars) and doesn't handle quality cassettes (bummer: 2 stars) Louis 2010-02-16
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A OK
Product arrived as scheduled.
Performed well. Had to call company as machine would not turn off. Simply change of settings, not explained in the manual. Is about what is expected. Sound good for what it is. CDs work fine. Never tried the rest. 2010-02-12
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Blown Away!
I purchased this unit for my daughter for Christmas and she couldn't be happier with it. The sound quality is over the top for such a small unit. She has used the radio, CD player and the iPod docking station and finds all three to be great. She is especially happy with the 5 CD changer as opposed to having to change 1 CD at a time. She is also happy with the radio as we live in an area that does not get good radio reception (AM or FM) and this unit pulls every station on the dial! I highly recommend the Sharp system. 2010-02-01
