Decent sound quality...but player broke within 3 months of using is. Unable to repair and had to send back to Sony. Cheaply made drive belt that came loose in less than 5-10 uses. AWAITING REPAIR or to be sent another one to replace it.

It took me a while to get this unit to work but it gets the job done. Be aware that I have not figured out how to monitor the recordings. When I did, I got a terrible hum in the recording so I turned the monitor off. For now this is strictly a record only device.

A switchable pre-amp built in so it works with modern receivers lacking a pre-amp. You need to choose the USB Audio CODEC as the default recording device in windows to get the recording to work. The USB Codec does appear appear to have an adjustable input level so if the LP is too loud the recording is clipped by the software.

The Sound Forge software included with the turntable is not very good. I could not figure out how to slice the album into tracks and the auto track detection never works correctly. I solved this by using Adobe Audition to do the slicing and click/pop elimination. You might also try freeware called Audacity. I have already had to re-record a side of an album because of the poor GUI design that lets you close the recording without saving it!

This unit will pay for itself within a month not to mention the fact that some of the LPs I have are not available anywhere in digital formats.

This is a great product for its price. It works equally well with both
PCs and Macs, i.e. once you download Audacity for the Mac. The Audacity
software allows audio play-thru without using the RCA connections,
thus only the USB connection is required. Sony should provide Mac
compatibility by including Audacity or indicating Mac compatibility
by its use via a free Audacity download.

Other than a couple of minor changes, i.e. RCA jacks in the rear versus
a hardwired cable and an arm clip to hold the cartridge securely, the
unit is well designed. The provided software works well on the PC,
but the Audacity software is preferred. The unit is very easy to setup,
taking only minutes. The controls, start, stop and arm up/down, make
for a simple/easy operation.

For those of you who thought your vinyl collection would be relegated to the "I'll listen to it later" pile, check this out. The Sony USB turntable allows you to put your collection onto your MP3 player. Its as easy as listening to a record. The software is pretty intuitive - but you do have to name each track, otherwise you will end up with 1 "song" per side. That being said, the quality is good - there is a low 'hiss' before each track, but it cant be helped, nor does it detract from the music, (where there is no audible hiss). The slim profile and black color make it easy to fit this unit into your audio center. I have seen similar turntables for 3x the price, but if you are a regular person who doesn't have specific and exacting audiophile needs, this is the turntable for you.
