Radio Fun
Good radio for recreational use. We took them camping and they worked on all the trails in the park. Clear conversation for up to two miles. We were in granite rocky areas with no interference. Compatible with our other two ways as well.

Great for the Price
First of all the range in normal city conditions is no more than a single mile. I havent tried it in the desert but in the city its 1 or 2 miles tops.
That is normal with ALL GMRS radios so get over it.

Very good features for the price but would of have loved VOX. Feels very solid.

What a waste!
These units have lasted a whopping 7 months. Initially, they were great...held a charge; great reception; easy to handle. Now, they have to be recharged daily even though we have them on standby for only 1 hour daily. They have not been dropped or abused. They stink. I rated them two stars for the ease of use and handling ONLY.

Excellent Choice!
We actually ordered these for our son's 7th birthday. We wanted something sturdy and durable, not some flimsy kid version. These certainly fit the bill - we have not had any issues with anything breaking (and he's a typical boy) and the range has worked well for us (a mile or so). We have not taken them any further, but for our purposes they work great! I love the rechargeable batteries (again, typical boy)and the holder - we just keep them in the recharger when they're not being used!

Low cost but not many features
I thought I would share my experiences with this product so others won't mske the same mistake. I bought these with the AVPH3 (Security headsets) because of the supported VOX option (voice activation). However, after getting both the radios and the headsets it dawned on me that both the radios and the headsets need to support the VOX option, not just the headsets.

Needless to say, I'm disappointed in these radios as no where does it say about supporting (or not supporting) the voice activation. So, now we have a pair of radios we'll save for another time when we don't need or want the VOX. Now, I'm researching the other models that specifically say VOX supported. I'm surprised the AVPH3 headsets didn't say to be sure the radios support the VOX function but the headsets came with no documentation. You live and you learn. Chalk this one up for experience ;)
