Not entirely happy with TV. Even with HD cable there is still picture jitter and ghosting. Image is almost cartoon like. Non-HD tv stations are so pixelated you can't stand to watch them. PS2 games suffer the same fate. Bottom line is you need all new equipment with this TV. 2008-12-27
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great picture, excellent connectivity, and Auto Motion Plus is awesome
I researched a wide range of 52" LCD's and came to the conclusion that the LN52A650 fit my needs the best. It also helped that it was CR's top rated 52" LCD. Picture quality is exceptional, and the auto motion plus anti-juddering really gives the image a three-dimensional quality. It doesn't look unnatural to me at all, but rather, immerses one in the scene. The touch of red feature is just red plastic - its not backlit. It is unobtrusive and you only notice the red if sunlight is shining on it. As for glare, the picture is so bright that I do not see glare as an issue even with the afternoon sunshine right on the screen.
Negatives? I wish the remote had preset buttons for picture control - for example, I like to use different settings for watching movies vs watching broadcast cable HD channels. Also the remote's scroll wheel tries to mimic an ipod, but is far less responsive. This doesn't detract from the outstanding performance of the television though, and I would recommend it to everyone. I actually compared the LN52A650 to the Sony 52" XBR6 at the local BB and the pictures were essentially identical. The XBR supposedly has better speakers but I don't know any home theater enthusiast who doesn't feed sound through a surround system, so the television's speakers don't get used anyways. 2008-12-27
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Extremely Happy with my new TV
I've had this TV for about 4 months now and couldn't be happier. Picture quality is outstanding and the TV looks fantastic. Sure blacks could be better, but for an LCD they are pretty much as good as it gets. (At the moment in 2008) I've convinced three other friends to buy a Samsung 650 (of various sizes) and they are all extremely happy with their purchases.
The 650 series is the sweet spot of Samsung TV's because it has the same great picture quality of the higher models but with a lower price but blows away the lower models in picture quality. You won't be sorry if you buy one. 2008-12-27
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Amazing.. awesome TV worth every penny
52A650 is amazing. Though little heavy with the base, the swivel base is useful to adjust the horizontal direction. Touch of red color and unique transparent cabinet border extensions makes this TV eloquent and sophisticated. We loved it. Ordered HD Dish and boy I imagined what I was missing for so many days. Amzing picture quality, deep bright colors. Please watch Planet earth, Coral rif from HDnet, Science channel, and National Geography and you will appreciate more. Haven't seen such splash of colors on any other TV including sony. Absolutley no calibration required. Just adjust brightness based on room light and you are done. Every TV has the screen reflection problem little or more. When samsung TV is tuned on, you will forget about screen reflections. absolutely not noticeable or none due to bright and flawless picture. Dusted off my old UHF/VHF antenna and tuned the channels. And Whola...it captured 17 local HD chanels(NY, NJ area). Didn't have to pay dime to Dish for local chanels. The local chanels also look amazing. So before you buy HD antenna, give a shot with your old ones. Overall satisfied with Samsung 52A650. Can't describe more. 2008-12-26
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Feels like you are there
The size of the screen and brightness makes you feel like you are part of the movie or sporting event. Sometimes you will see a drag of some images but when you connect with a Yamaha receiver using surround sound and Blu-ray it is like being at the movie theater. Purchased HDMI cables on Amazon (not Monster type) and also saved. HD from cable company is great but non-HD do not have the quality you would get with picture tube. 2008-12-26
