Philips DVP3345V/17 DVD/VCR Combo

I have a slightly different model, but in essentials I believe it is the same player as this one. I noticed other users also posted that they had this problem, and some earlier than others! I've hardly tried to play any VHS tapes on it at all, but recently (after three years of satisfied ownership) I tried to play a VHS tape with it and it "kindly but stubbornly" refused. This appeared to cause a further glitch to the system in that now, when I try to play DVDs, it will play them for a few minutes until the whole thing will shut itself off (usually after the VCR makes some angry clicks and whirs.) After that it will not work for even a few more seconds again without unplugging the machine for a couple of minutes, but even then it will only play DVDs for a few minutes more-- 10 minutes at the most-- before shutting down again.

It is very frustrating and I am currently dismantling it for fun before I throw it away. I would have hoped it would last as long as my old combo DVD player; I can't remember the model but it lasted at least ten years. Too bad this one couldn't cut it.

This is a product review - not a service review (compay was excellent in shipping, etc.) This DVD/VCR combo does NOT come with a tuner. Please read the product description. Obviously I did not. The company gave excellent service, however, and the PLAYERs were received in good time. The product itself needs to be taken off the market because it costs more to buy the separate components (if you don't already have a cable/satellite box) than it does to buy a brand new up-to-technology-date DVD/VCR combo. Don't waste your money on this product. Yes, I would do business with the company again.

I first purchased this machine 4 months ago. It worked for a couple weeks, and then the VCR would not play. I exchanged it for a new machine, but the DVD didn't work. I contacted the manufacturer many times. after a couple months they sent me a new machine. the latest machine's DVD tray will not even open. I've bought phillips items in the past and was never disappointed. this has been a frustrating experience. buyers becareful.

Great Product. I was a bit skeptical being that the item was refurbished, but it works like brand new. I especially like the tracking features for older vhs's that may be a bit snowy or squiggly. Recommend it highly.

VERY EASY TO HOOK UP TO TV..FIRST ONE I WAS ABLE TO HOOK UP TO WATCH AND RECORD.
