long range but doesn't work well on cruise.
range is long in open space, but doesn't work well on a cruise ship. it maybe because the ship is built in steel.

Better Two-way radios
Product was delivered quickly and it works just as the previous reviews stated. Anxious to try them out on our cruise in August.

Excellent radio
I've got both the TSX-300 and TSX-100 models. The TSX-100's have about the same range as an FRS/GMRS radio (Motorola Talkabout) but seem to maintain better voice clarity over a comparable distance.
The TSX-300's are incredible. There are sporatic areas where reception is somewhat spotty due to buildings, metal structures, etc., but outdoors with a clean line of sight I am getting very impressive results over considerable distances (3/4 mile). After owning MANY pairs of FRS radios from many different manufacturers I was pleasantly surprised by the range and overall voice quality of these units. I bought the 300's for my wife and I and the 100's for the kids (cheaper to replace if lost).
They also take AA batteries. I'd recommend the Powerex 2700 mah units from 17th St. photo through Amazon along with their MH-C9000 charger.
Don't let the reviews of the charger put you off. It's not THAT difficult to operate and since the batteries directly determine the quality of your radio communication experience, you don't want to settle for second best. Rechargable batteries are convienent but expensive and you should demand the longest life and best performance from them. The MH-C9000 provides that performance.

Better than FRS/GMRS
Excellent radio in that it works where the FRS and GMRS users crowd the radio spectrum. Frequency hopping allows these to talk to each other on their own secure channel as well as send text messages. Range is about the same as FRS/GMRS radios. I do not use the earpieces as they do not fit well in my ear. Work well with a Motorola throat microphone and light and small enough to put in a coat pocket. I would rate them a 5 if they were a bit more durable. I like my radios to have heft and enough metal or rubber to take some knocks. I keep these in pockets and feel like I have to pamper them as they feel like cheap plastic. Battery life is good, and the blister pack has everything you need to get started using them. Great for the money as they are half the price of the competitions product. (These will interfere with 900MHz baby monitors and cordless phones.)

Works OK
I purchased this set of radios, and they worked good at close range and at a 1/2 mile their was a lot of static. I am sending them back because they also eat batteries. Just having the radio on and not using it, the batteries would go dead in 4 hrs and half that time if you used the radio, I tried three different types of batteries and had the same results with all of them.
