Your search is over!
Didn't read the manual. Didn't install the software. Flew by seat of pants. Not a single problem. I'm storing 16 gig of music, mp3-books, and Audible books with an 8-gig SDHC card and loving it. User interface is easy to figure out and graceful. Mid-track resume after shutoff is great for book-length files, and I'll never need the 100 bookmarks. Drag-and-drop files onto either the internal storage or the SDHC card. Sync Audible files using Windows Media Player. This device has lived up to my every desire. And the battery life! The battery logo contains 4 bars. after 6 hours, one bar went away. After 15 hours, no more bars had gone away. I honestly don't know how long it will go, because I had to copy more files and thus recharged it after 15 hours, but I expect to go a week or more between charges.

This is the ultimate MP3 player for those who like audio books.

Versatile media player
I am very pleased with this product! It is very nicely made and has great sound. Since this was a priority when researching it, I'm very pleased that the product fulfilled it's promise! It is also nice to be able to extend it's capabilities with SD memory cards. Since it reads many different file types, I was able to compress my music into some lossless music types which were not available on more mainstream products. That is another big plus! However, the music type that I selected does not support the ability to identify the artist of the song on the screen. I think this is a defect that should be rectified in future firmware updates or by the programmers who made this program. The other problem was in the documentation that came with the unit. When I first attempted to connect the Cowon D2 to my computer, it was not recognized. In searching the on-line documentation, I was unable to locate a solution. I attempted to contact customer service (on-line chat) and was eventually successful in learning that it was a setting on the Cowon D2 that needed to be changed. Voila! No more problem BUT it really was more difficult than it needed to be to track down. The battery life is awesome and everything else is as well. The way it organizes your music on the player is somewhat cumbersome but no real problem. It's much better than an iPod!

A gem let down by its software!
I got my Cowon D2 8mb and took delivery in the USA while on holiday there (I live in UK). It is a delight! I have an ipod and a couple of other pmp's as well and I have to say that the music on the D2 is great. However, trying to get some videos on to it is rather difficult. I contacted the Cowon help desk but after two weeks I still have not heard from them. What videos I have on the D2 have been achieved by using PSP software - it belongs to a friend who said of the Cowon D2's software "I am underwhelmed by it - possibly one of the worst I have met" - and he is a computer expert! However, I would have the D2 even if it never played videos - the music is wonderful and having the equaliser to play around with gives different sounds. I would have given 5 stars but the lack of support from Cowon on its software takes away one star.

Nothing but 5-stars for Techie or Not
First of all. the one-star review is completely wrong, if you want the player to play flac files, the newest firmware v3.53 can be found on the korean cowon website.

I sold my 16GB iPod touch which was more than 2x the amount I paid for the cowon D2. And I do not regret the decision at all.

Its easy to use. The SD card slot is great, I bought a couple 8 GB cards to go along with my player and it holds plenty of music and videos.

But what I was most impressed with was the battery life. The battery has lasted for days without charge and thats with playing FLAC files (800-900kbps)
