Samsung YP-P2JAR P2 4 GB Slim Portable Media Player (Burgundy)Customer Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Total Reviews: 28 Best Offer: Special By Supplier: Beach Audio Availability: Usually ships in 1-2 business days ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sansung Touch Screen MP3
I think its very nice, it's as good as advertised. The touch screen works well and it's easy to get around. The bluetooth link to your cell phone is great, and there is enough memory for what I need it for.
The bad it that it must hook up to a usb port to recharge and all of the video has to be converted to some other format. But it is very easy to do with the Samsung media center provided. 2008-06-18
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Good for the most part but could be better
I purchased the 4 GB P2 to compare it to the iPod Touch 8 GB.
The UI is pretty good, not all menu options are "touch", some are done with the buttons on the sides of the P2. Pictures that have been reduced by the Samsung software and transferred to the P2 advance in about 3.5 seconds (1 second or less for the iPod touch). The screen scratches VERY easily. The picture quality for the screen size is outstanding. The drop and drag ability to transfer files is nice too. The sound quality is very good and the equalizer options are quite good. I did not watch a video so I cannot comment on that. The bottom line, for the money, I would save up for an 8 GB iPod Touch rather than spend the money on the P2. I decided to return my P2 mainly due to the slow advance for the pictures, a feature that is important to me. 2008-06-13
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() General comments - trying to be honest!
Ok, I gave in and finally purchased an MP3 player.
Criteria - small/thin/light, ample storage, not hard drive, not Apple, not Sony. Must do MP3, needs a screen. Anything else a bonus. Took me bloomin ages to decide but after plenty of Internet use I came across the Samsung YP-2 range. Was still undecided for a bit and even started looking at the Apple I-Touch but was just trying to be realistic about requirements. OK, so the review. It looks nice. It sounds nice, but then when you start to really use the DNSe it sounds damn great. Combine it with some great heaphones and it moves into wow. This comes from the person with the CD player with Play on it and the amp with a volume control and nothing else. (not cheap!) Useability it's pretty good. The touch screen could be more accurate at times or maybe my fingers should be smaller. Either way it misses on occasion. Customisation of the interface is easy and the games aren't bad either. Video - it's ok. Limited viewing angle and brightness at times but otherwise it's actually quite impressive. Tv replacement - defo not - it's an MP3 player after all. RSS - yes it does them - called datacasts on this model. They are ok but the user interface on the PC side is an arse. Some restrictions on the text RSS side of things seem also to just get in the way. For mp3 rss it's fine, quite good actually compared to many. Bluetooth wise - pretty impressed. I actually use this with my phone quite frequently - it's better than using another headset. Also have bluetooth to my car stereo so it doesn't need one of those awful FM transmitters (although you may need a new car, car stereo or additional box in the car somewhere for it to work). Battery life is pretty good - on month 3 and it's still doing about 15-20 hours if I'm not busy poking the screen. Firmware updates are simple and work fine. In fact they are essential. Keep them coming. The potential after each firmaware upgrade leaves you wanting more. Do I want Wifi though - probably not. Phone does that and laptop, I wanted an MP3 player that would play through my car. Do I want web browsing - well ditto to that. Basically all in all I think it's damn good - not quite an IPod touch beater but if you don't need all those bells and whistles and just want an MP3 player that looks and sounds good then this is the one for you. Be aware it seems to be a work in progress - there are frequent firmware updates (yey!) and even the PC software is now 'upgraded' to a Beta release. Works great with MS media player though. 2008-06-03
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great but not perfect.
The Samsung P2 is great for listening to your music or the radio. You can even watch videos, read ebooks, and play games. The device also has Bluetooth 2.0 which is perfect for stereo headsets. The P2 can sync with your phone (if it has Bluetooth) and place or answer calls on your P2. If you want you can send files over Bluetooth as well. There are plenty of additional features and probably more by the time you read this as newer firmwares come out.
For the bad, the P2 is shiny. This is a touch screen player so it will be inevitable to leave finger prints and streaks across the screen. I have actually decided to get a medium sized microfiber cloth that wraps around the P2 and use that as my case. Whenever I feel the need to clean the screen I just take off the "case" to clean and its good as new. Another issue as-is with most touch screens is recognition. I personally have what I'd call average sized fingers for a man but this screen is tiny. Much tinier then an ipod touch so if you've had trouble with that just keep that in mind. However, this device doesn't rely entirely on touch as it does come with hard buttons and most of the important actions are easy to preform but if you'd like to change the volume on screen (instead of using the buttons) that gesture is a little difficult in my opinion. Ebook Reading is a great feature of this P2. However their idea of an ebook is a plain text (.txt) file. So if you have ebooks like most people either in .lit, .html, or .pdf, you will already have a problem. It was quiet simple just use a search engine to look for.. html to txt or pdf to txt and you will find something that works. Just remember to be safe when doing it. The software for the Samsung P2 is extremely problematic. It will attempt to update, it fails, it will attempt to download new firmware, it fails, it will even try and convert movies, and guess what? it fails. The bundled software is horrible I couldn't get it to work. If you download the latest it works but I noticed many features are missing like datacasts. And still time to time it will fail. When it says the device supports so and so format it means the software supports that format and will gladly attempt to convert the video for you. The additional tools and the 3 or 4 games that are on the game pack that took a lot of searching for are all "alright." Nothing special so do not get your hopes up just yet. I did find out during my hunt for the games that there seems to be a few people devoted to making good ones when they open it up so I wouldn't be surprised if we see some classic touchscreen games headed to the P2. Overall: Even with all the above negatives I still enjoy this player. I point out these problems so you as the customer know about them before hand. Trust me when I say they don't subtract from the quality of this player. For the price this player definitely has an amazing list of features along with its performance which earns it the 5-star rating. I would recommend this product to others who want a sturdy, feature-full, touchscreen player. 2008-05-27
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() WOW!!!!!!!!
Ok first off i have this mp3 player for about 4-5 months. I am carefull with it (for a teen) and i dont like like ipods. This mp3 is great i have the 4gig burgandy and it is sleek. it has awsome sound especially if you use the EQ to tweak its sound ( I also bought bose in ear headphones with it i recommend) the video is great to but get the 8gig if you store alot of video and the program comes with makes the res perfect for + it reduces the space needed. The updates come are awsome to games calculator records radio and many other things. I highly recommend because of good sound, Video and overall usabillity 2008-05-24
