I purchased the Onkyo TX-SR805 7.1 Channel Home theater receiver to upgrade my Sony 5.1 (which I was never happy with because it sounded weak). I have to say that this Onkyo has surpassed my expectations in sound quality. Prior to buying it I was going back and forth with this unit and a Denon which was twice the price. I read a lot of other reviews about this Onkyo model so I decided to go for it and I am happy I did. The one issue I have with it is the video HDMI pass through (encoder). I don't want the Onkyo unit turned on all the time while I watch TV. If you use the HDMI port on the Onkyo unit it must be turned on to watch TV. This is probably solvable with a simple HDMI A & B switch. The sound on this unit is amazing with Polk speakers. I have never turned it up full so there is plenty of power. The unit needs space around it as it can run a little hot. I have mine on a open glass table so there is nothing on top of it. I would recommend a fan if it is enclosed anywhere. All and all it is a great bang for the buck. Amazing sound without breaking the bank. 2008-05-18

So far, so good. No problems. DirecTV HD receiver and Xbox 360 hooked up through the receiver to a Samsung LN52A650. No lag or delay in picture or sound. Easy to setup. It does run a bit on the warm side so make sure there is nothing stacked on top of it. 2008-05-17

I read all the reviews before purchase so I was forwarned of potential difficulty. Love the audio and built in equalizer setup. Even with repeated calls to help desk, I never was able to connect the Video outputs to my Samsung DLP. I was able to see the set up menu on the TV. I tried both HMI and component video connections on the Onkyo before bailing out and using direct component video cables from by Cable Box and DVD player to the TV. I have a Universal 850 RF remote, so the multiple connections are circumvented by macros. 2008-05-17
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Amazing receiver!
It took me a very long time to justify getting a higher end receiver, but in the end, I'm glad I did. There's a little thing called buyer's remorse, and I didn't get it for a second! I was blown away from the beginning. This replaced my older Denon receiver, and everything is much more detailed, and you can really "feel" the volume through my Infinity Beta series speakers now. You can't go wrong with this 7.1 capable, future-proofed receiver. 2008-05-14
