So far, so great
Keep in mind when you read this review that I've only had this DVR for a little more than one week. However, thusfar I have yet to have a single problem with it. None, nada, zilch. I've read reviews about constant lockups (I can attest to that as my father has one he bought a few months ago and has this problem) but either a)I'm one lucky son of a gun or b)they've fixed whatever problems needed to be fixed. Not to mention that it's a LOT quicker than my R15 (non HD DVR from DirecTV) both with remote responsiveness and searching for a show, title, etc. I would definitely recommend this model. Excellent picture, easy setup, recording of two shows at once, etc. Keep an eye out for an edit to this review if I have any problems ;)

It's not that bad!
I'll admit it's not TIVO but at least it seems to work. The picture is stunning. Where else are you going to go if you want a hd-dvr? I'm happy with it. But as soon as TIVO and Direct tv hook up with a hd-dvr it's in the trash.

Wow
When I saw some bad reviews of what I have found to be a marvelous product, my suspicious side thought these folks must work for a DTV competitor or have sold the stock short. Since there is apparently only one other review that gives it 5 stars, I may have to conclude that some of us just got lucky. I have now hundreds of trouble free hours with this unit, great HD and non-HD recording. Let me make this clear.... ZERO problems in many months since I bought it (first using 3 LNB, and now 5 LNB). I don't understand what is difficult about programming or using the remote? Seems very easy to me. And now I have all local channels in HD. Judging by all the DTV dishes in our county, I am obviously not the only satisfied customer.

Locks up
Just as others have posted, it locks up 3-5 times a week. We have had this unit for 3 months and even had a couple service calls where they tried to charge us $70 to fix this piece of junk. Make sure you pay for the warranty plan if you own the HDDVR. Kind of amazing that you need to buy the warranty plan because of poor quality.

First time rater
While having read the reviews for many products on Amazon to help me decide on a purchase, I have never written one. I feel like I must submit one, now, for this product. The quality is poor. If there is a competing hd dvr out there that can be used with Directv, I would recommend that one. It can't be any worse. Having had Tivo (and still do), this dvr is horrible in comparison. It frequently is unresponsive and the controls and menus are clunky. There are even times when you press a button once and the receiver thinks you've pressed it multiple times (e.g. hit "0" once and "00" or "000" pops up). How can a receiver be unresponsive one minute and then overly responsive the next?! It is so bad that I am contemplating dropping Directv and going back to cable. Yes, I said it. I never thought I would consider subscribing to cable again until this dvr came into my life.
