TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder

I was an early adopter of TiVo. Years after enjoying the Series One, I took them up at their offer of a Series 2 and transferred my lifetime service. The Series One box still worked fine, but I figured -- why not upgrade?

Then along came HD. After agonizing and researching for over a year, I wound up with a Pioneer Elite 60 inch plasma and a Pioneer Elite Blu-Ray player, along with a new processor, 7.1 amps capability, 7 new speakers, cabinetry etc. Hey, why not?)

So what to do about taping American Idol in HD? After researching the Series 3, I decided that TiVo is probably about a year and a half behind the power curve with product. If I were you, I'd rent the cable company's HD-DVR, endure the prehistoric user interface, and hope that someday TiVo will regenerate itself to the company it once was. That's what I did.

I can afford whatever I want. Right now, I don't want TiVo HD. The mere fact that they don't automatically offer transfer of lifetime service to a new, expensive box tells me that the company may be in trouble. TiVo will not be around in a few years if they continue to generate the negative reviews you're reading here. What a shame!

I had a 40GB Tivo Series 2 for about 5 years and I finally upgraded to this model and I love it. No complaints and still a happy/loyal customer. It was nice that it actually came with a HDMI cable unlike my high end Sony DVD player. Yay Tivo.

I can't say much about the product as I bought it for my company but we have yet to use it because you need a cable card to watch tv with this and RCN does not supply them. I'm giving it a 5 because I can't give an N/A. If you're in Boston and want to get TiVo, make sure you check that your cable provider can supply you with a cable card.

I really like the system. It was a bit of a problem getting the cards installed correctly by the cable company - Other than than that, I'm very happy witht this product.

This unit replaced an LG unit that had become unreliable. I use only OTA antenna, no cable or satelite. The digital picture was almost unwatchable on a windy day on the LG. The TiVo tuner is so good that picture almost never pixilates. All of the other wonderful features work very well. My only quibble is that there is no way of knowing how much recording unrecorded space is left on the hard drive (otherwise I'd rate this product 5 stars).
