Audio Technica AT-PL50 Belt Drive Turntable

I am amazed with the the quality of the Audio Technica AT-PL50 I purchased recently. I was looking for a turntable that had a built-in preamp so I could hook it up straight to my iPod Hifi and the AT-PL50 worked perfectly. The sound quality is amazing, the setup was simple. It's exactly what I was looking for and the price was perfect.

For some one looking to get into vinyl this is an inexpensive way to do it without sacrificing much.

This is an excellent turntable for converting your LP's to CD's. We get NO hum or buzz as the ground is built in to the RCA to Mini Stereo Plug Adapter that comes with it (Plugs into your soundcard Line IN). It is 100% automatic, which is great. You can make it do everything just by pressing different buttons on the front. Nice easy/soft close dust cover. Does not include software, but you can get it off the internet. It is free. Do a google search for 'download audacity software'. Also, Nero (full version) has an LP to CD Wizard built in (versions 7 or 8). Phono needle is included & comes installed. No need to pay more for a turntable that you are going to use just to convert all your LP's one time. Nice that the built in amplifier can be turned off or on in case you want to plug it into a stereo system with its own pre-amp. Best of both worlds. Very happy with this one!!!

This player is great for the price. I have not experienced any problem with the sound. It has a nice metal platter with rubber pad, most players in this price range will cheapen it with a plastic platter with felt pad. For those on a budget and who want to just play their records and maybe record a few, this is a great buy. Professionals, or those with a giant record collection might want something a little more.

Not the greatest sound quality, but now, after playing 12 songs only, it started to slow down considerably... can't use it anymore, and I don't have the original packaging. Can I return it like that? Besides the packaging, the turntable itself is in excellent condition, hardly used at all.

The AudioTechnica AT-PL50 turntable is a lovely piece of hardware. Easy to set up (you have to install the table, which involves setting the belt on it... could be a daunting task, but the instructions and method given is pretty functional... if you are a total fumble-fingers, then you might want someone else to do the job for you) and extremely easy to use. I installed it for input directly to my computer (converting my old LP's to digital) and it worked as expected with no surprises. Has the feel of a quality piece of equipment, with damped lid and needle arm. Limited controls are sufficient and easy to work. If you are just looking for a turntable, this is a great combination of quality and price; a very good value.
