I really like how clearly the voice sounds when you record. However, mine doesn't record as soon as you push record, it takes a few seconds, is there a reason? I've had tape players/tape recorders before and this never happened. 2008-04-23

Sony TCM-929 Pressman Desktop Cassette Recorder with Automatic Shut-Off
Great basic tape recorder which is what I was looking for. Easy to use. Buttons push easy. Counter makes it easy to find exact spot on tape. Sound is ok for a small recorder. Have not yet recorded on it, but plan to. I would highly recommend this product to anybody looking for a basic tape player/recorder; nothing fancy, everything I was wanting & it's a Sony product. Comes with AC/DC plug or you can use batteries. Also has handle to carry. 2008-04-05
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() PLAYER THAT WILL NOT RECORD
I purchased the Sony TCM-929 Pressman Desktop Cassette Recorder through Amazon.com because of the Sony name and the most reasonable price.
I have used the TCM-929 primarily for the playing of cassettes that have already been recorded. During the time I have owned the recorder, I have recorded on it about 7-10 times. A few days ago, I attempted to record again and found that the recording button had become absolutely frozen in place--meaning that I could play cassettes but could no longer record. To record both the recording button and the play button must be pushed in completely at the same time. I subsequently sent an email to Sony. A Sony customer service representative phoned me the next day and did everything except offer a replacement or the repair of it. He even suggested that I refer the matter to Amazon as if, in some way, Amazon had a responsibility for inferior merchandise made by or for Sony Corp. The customer service representative suggested that maybe a new part was needed. He suggested I contact the technical dept. This is a cassette recorder, Sony TCM-929 Pressman that originally cost about $22.00. Oh, yes, and perhaps there is a spray I could use to unfreeze the button. Perhaps there is, though I haven't ever seen one. I have experienced this same problem with other recorders but not until the recording feature had been used a lot for a few years. It reminded me of my 85 year old neighbor's residence phone not working, calling Verizon and being told to go outside, take off the phone-wire plate cover (screwdriver)), pull out certain wires, and find an old-sytle phone to plug in--just to make sure that the problem was really Verizon's problem. Of course, it was then dark so a flashlight was needed, too. But then why shouldn't an 85 year old, disabled lady go out and check the phone lines. I mean do it yourself is one thing, but!!!!! I cannot recommend this product. It has not lived up to the Sony name. I have a big-screen Sony television; it works well, and I have always considered Sony as the best.(not in this instance). Since I am not trained in recorder-button installation and because the USPS or UPS rate would be ridiculous for transporting this $22.00 item, it would have been wise for Sony to have replaced this Pressman TCM-929 standard cassette desktop recorder. It may have cost Sony $7.00 to $9.00. It is called public relations and keeping customer "good will." Not very good marketing, Sony.Sony TCM-929 Pressman Desktop Cassette Recorder with Automatic Shut-Off I do appreciate the phone call from Sony--Whoever said "talk is cheap." 2008-04-03
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Works as intended
Works fine. No problems. It was a relief to find that we can still buy these players since my mom is in her 80s and knows how to use it and gets confused with the units that combine tape, cd, etc. 2008-03-20
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ...does the job..mainly for voice.
For $10 ..what a deal.
I write songs and play guitar and it's handy to record the music (at the moment). Sound quality as expected is mediochre. I did record a financial message from my speaker phone (Panasonic) handset. Very good. This alone justifies this recorder. I will have to record from this to a digital hand recorder to check out the quality. Digital is not everything...but almost. lol 2008-03-03
