These speakers are definitely the best part of my home theater system! I bought them with a new Sony receiver, but the speakers got here much earlier then the receiver, so i hooked them up to my old Yamaha for the weekend. Wow! What a difference with just 2 speakers connected. I had 2 old 3 foot Klipsch floor standing speakers before, and i was amazed at the immediate difference in sound. It only got better after i hooked them into the new receiver on Monday. I now wish i had gotten a nicer receiver to complement these high end speakers. I would have spent the full $400 circuit city wanted if they didn't have them here for half the price. The subwoofer worried me because it only has 50 watts of power, but you're in for a surprise. I had to turn it down so it wouldn't knock the pictures off the wall, or make me go deaf.
I also want to add that Electronic expo overnighted me these speakers for the standard shipping price of a 44 lb package! I definitely recommend them if you end up buying these! 2008-11-13
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent 5.1 Speaker Set for Typical Family Rooms
I have an older Sony Audio-Visual Receiver (STR-DE595) that supports 5.1 surround sound. The AVR had been sitting in a box since my stepson moved out and took his speakers with him. After watching a movie at a friend's house with Bose surround sound, I noted that the sound was far better than what I had remembered from the speakers my stepson has. But doing some research I found these speakers were touted as having better midrange than the Bose and were at a much more affordable price point.
I spent about $30 in speaker wire (18g to front and center speakers, 16g to surround speakers, special Y-RCA cable to the subwoofer). The first show I watched was ER. The hospital loudspeaker in the background came from behind me and the dialog from in front. I felt like I was in the hospital with them. When I listened to the classical music station it sounded like someone had moved their piano into our TV room. Finally, I watched a DVD and could follow the sound of a moving train as it receded behind me. I'm no audiophile, but I think these speakers outshine the Bose Acoustimass 10 at a fraction of the price. Next on my list will be an Onkyo THX certified receiver. I've only had them for a few days, but so far I would have to say that it would be very hard to get better speakers for the money. 2008-11-03
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great little system
Great set of speakers. I have them hooked up to a Pioneer Receiver and with that MCACC auto tune you get the most out of these little suckers. I havent boughten any Polk Audio before but I heard the name before and I would recommend these speakers. The sub is quite nice and rich. It is a bit boxie but thats ok. The satellites have some weight to them which is nice. For under 300 you cant beat it. 2008-11-02
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Best for the money
I don't believe you can beat these speakers for the price. They put everything else I have listened to to shame. They are not for a large theater but then, I don't have a large theater. 2008-10-19
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Good speaker for small room, hookup option #2 sounds much better than hookup option #1
The speakers work great in a small room (in my case, 15 ft by 20 ft). The speakers have three hook up options. I tried option #2 first and then option # 1 after my subwoofer cable arrived. They sound much better using option #2. What a waste of my money to get the subwoofer cable!
I read previous reviews about lack of low-frequecy male vocal sound from the speakers. That is exactly my experience with option #1 hookup. Using option #2, it sounds good for both movie effects and music. I have no problem with low-frequency male vocal sound at all. Actually, I need to tune down the subwoofer volume to reduce the low frequency sounds. 2008-10-03
