OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD & DVD-Audio

I have had Sony's b-ray and samsung's b-ray and this is the cream of the crop!!!

I can spend all day writing about this Blue Ray/DVD player but, it's been written and detailed so well in the other reviews already. I have read most of the other reviews and Ditto. The OPPO BDP-83 is truely all that they say and well worth the purchase price. Highly quality, easy to install, use (I am a non-techie), and operate. The cream of the crop, simply the best!

As someone who does extensive research on any product before purchasing and noticing the extensive positive reviews on this player, I was very much looking forward to getting it and giving it a spin to see what all the hype was about.

The first thing that got my attention was the build quality of the Oppo and its added accessories, which in my opinion surpassed almost all the components in this price range.

The second thing is that after setting up the Oppo, which proved to be a surprisingly easy task considering all this machine is capable of, I was not at all disappointed with what I saw and heard.

I proceeded to try all the varying disc that I currently have in my possession, including SACD's, original DVD's, DVD-R's, red book CD's, etc, and they all played with very little fuss and played exquisitely while doing it.

As mentioned before what was surprising to me was the ease of which this player was able to setup and operate; the user manual and the user interface was very straight forward and simple, especially considering that some of my other components were and still is an absolute pain to deal with but otherwise works well.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this product, especially if u have any SACD's or DVD audio disc lying around.

One very slightly negative comment is that while trying to play "Hellboy II" it got stuck at the point of loading but after turning power off and then back on again this problem was no more, but other than that absolutely no issues.

I was hesitant to replace my expensive Denon 2900 Universal Player, but I wanted to get into Blu_Ray. I read all of the reviews, and noted that Home Theater magazine rated the Oppo BDP-83 Universal Player as their Product of the Year. I admit that I found it difficult to believe that a player priced at $499.00 would be able to outperform my Denon and offer Blu-Ray. Well, I'm a Believer now. This player has so many Bells and Whistles for the price, it is unbelievable. DVD, SACD, DVD-Audio, Blu_Ray, whatever you play on it, the Oppo performs flawlessly. I'm convinced that if the Oppo was sold in brick and mortar stores, it would easily cost twice as much.

This player comes beautifully packaged in a reusable, cloth shopping bag. Also included was a Spears and Munsil Calibration Disc and an Aix Records Audio Calibration and Music Sampler disc. All needed cables are included in an attractive box. This is one classy component. It is very easy to set-up, with a Quick Start on-screen menu. Later, you can use the extensive calibration menus to further refine sound and picture.

If you are in the market for a Blu-Ray Universal Player, I truly believe you cannot do any better than the Oppo for any price. The Sound and Vision Reviewer picked this as his new Reference Player, and even Consumer Reports picked this as the best Blu-Ray Player of the year. I agree.

I have owned many blu ray players. This one, by far, is the best one I've ever owned. The picture quality is outstanding, with superior sound, not to mention the formats available, which includes sacd. The setup was very simple, with an on screen guide. The player is built well and has a very solid feel. When playing blu ray disk, it loads very quickly, compared to others that I've owned. I can't think of a single negative. I'm glad I made this purchase and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a superior player, at any price.
