Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Performs very well, easy to use, recycle times are amazing. I've been punishing this thing for thousands of shots and it doesn't miss a beat. I've not used the SB800 or 900 so I can't compare, but this is definitely a good piece of kit.

Here is a quick example of a very fast setup done with 3x SB-600's, and a SU-800 wireless commander on a D700 body using a 24-70mm FX Nikkor lens (setup in 5-7 minutes with stands and umbrellas purchased here on amazon, took 10 minutes worth of shots). Of course, i wanted 3x SB-900's, but that would be a swift $[...] invested into lights, and i didn't own the wireless commander at that point... something i desired for no front flash. i rented 3x SB-900's for a weekend and $[...] later, i did realize the SB-900 is very powerful offering greater coverage than the SB-600... but if you are on a budget, and have a close proximity you can shoot at combined with wider aperture settings, the SB-600's will be fine. if you need to close the aperture (F-8 through F-14 for example) at a low ISO (iso-100) and shoot in very low light conditions, you may want to invest in a more powerful speedlight like the SB-900. though, indoors so far these 3 SB-600's i purchased off of amazon have been a key addition to my setup offering great wireless value to my photographs. they can be used as a fill in nearly every situation, just be sure your using a later version wireless commander (su-800 or SB-800 and up) on your body, and you'll be good to go. come to think of it, if you have 1x SB-900 on your body and these lesser expensive SB-600 models used to fill on your left, right, and rear of the subject matter, you can have an amazing lighting setup for under a grand. some of my other friends have spent nearly 5k on strobes and power packs, and they have simply complained on shear cost of the setup, not to mention the additional insurance on the equipment which can be stolen or damaged in outdoor conditions.

I used the SB-600 mounted on my D80 for a job consisting of seven football teams with around twenty players each. I took individual as well as team photos. The day changed from overcast to sunny. The TTL metering worked great, plus, I got through the shoot on my 1st set of batteries. All of the pictures came out perfect. I would recommend this product. It has a very solid feel to it as well.

This is a good basic i-ttl Nikon flash. The SB-600 is a very basic flash that once it is connected to a Nikon camera the two communicate with each other.

I won't go into all the functions and features others have done that and very well I might add. You slide the flash on the camera and turn both on and they work wow! what more could you want.

This flash does have some limits and one must still beware of taking pictures of black and white areas or clothing which will either cause underexposure or overexposure, be sure to take a look a the last picture and check out the histogram to ensure that the exposure is correct.

If I had to do it over again I would spend the extra money and get the Nikon SB-800 it may cost a bit more, but for the power, features, functions and extras that you get with it is a plus and may over the long run be a better value.

Other than using the SB-600 in auto, manual or dial a power level that's about all you can do with the SB-600, but if that's all you need it for buy it, it's still the best and don't bother wasting your time and money on getting a third party flash that may or may not work with your Nikon camera, just get the real thing the first time I know I purchased the Sigma EF-500 DG Super for my Nikon D60 and it did not work.

if you want a stronger flash than the sb-400 without breaking the bank, this is it. get it soon, as nikon will be replacing it with the newer sb-700 which will cost more.
