![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a handy lens
I have a canon 70-200 very expensive good lens which is heavy and feel very proud, however I don't use it a lot because it's heavy and can't take short range photos. I only use it for my son and daughter's concert, etc, especially at dark music hall where not allowing to use flash light. My 18-55m kit model with rebel xti 400d is very good, but it can not take far away photos. At beginning, I always took the 70-200 and 18-55 with me. Later on, I give up because I'm tired of changing lens. I take pictures for fun and sometimes post them to a free forum, and I don't want to waste time on my hiking, exercising, which doesn't have any commercial values. I take pictures only for memory and an exercising excuse to ask for budget from my wife. I want to take a see-and-shot. So I bough a 28-90 canon lens when it's on sale. The 28-90 lens is much more convenient than the previous two and it takes very good photos as I expected. But one day I found this lens is too short when I saw a strange bird I want to picture. I planned to buy a really wide angle and telephoto lens. Look round, all of them are very expensive. I have spent a lot on my camera plus those lenses; I don't want to spend a lot more to make my dream true. Look around, I selected this 28-210 lens. Before I bought it, I searched all reviews about it, not many, only 5 reviews from the Amazon. I know it's not as good as my 70-200 professional lens, but it's only 1/10 price which is worth trying. At that time, it was a little more expensive from amazon.com than from 47th street directly. Later on, they changed to same price, so I bought it. Comparing it with my previous lens, here is the summary. 1) Its' value equals to its' price. If you are not a professional photographer, and only take some pictures for parties, kids and some nature views, it's a worth buying. Very handy and very good looking. It's smooth and looks like more expensive than its' price especially when you using its' crown hood. I use it almost every the other weekend when I hiking, other times I use my canon 50mm prime. 2) The drawback of this lens is it doesn't take as sharp picture as my 70-200 lens or 18-55/28-90 lens. It's a little bit fuzzy (not blur as someone said), I think not sharp will be a proper word for it, especially when enlarging the pictures. I think this is because of its glass quality and compromising of the long range zooming. 3) This lens has auto and manual focus selections. I use auto focus a lot. Not like canon lens, you are absolutely not allowed to use focus ring when it's set to the auto-focus, otherwise, you will break it. For canon lens, even it's set to auto-focus, you still can rotate focus ring. If you do msame for this cosina lens, you will hear a squeezing noise. I think this is because its focus motor gear doesn't allow to be forced move. So if you lend it to your friend, they may break it. 4) When I took a picture with it for a bright full moon, it always gets a shadow (reflection), my 70-200 canon doesn't have this issue. 5) The real problem is that its' auto focus motor is slow or doesn't have a good match with Rebel because when you set the rebel camera to the sports mode to take a moving objects, its auto focus doesn't follow the object to move. The canon lens doesn't have this issue. For example, when you want to take a set of photos for a swinging kid, it doesn't work at all. Many people said canon 50mm prime lens takes very good portrait picture, I bought one when it's on sale. This 50mm is really a good one, but it's really inconvenient when going out, who wants to move back and forth when taking a picture for fun. Summaring my entire lens, here is a list:
1. Picture quality: 1) Canon 50mm 2) canon 70-200mm 3) canon 18-55mm 4) 28-90mm 5)Cosina 28-210mm 2. Convenience: 1) Cosina 28-210mm 2)canon 28-90mm 3)canon 18-55mm 4)Canon 50mm 5)canon 70-200mm So it's very depending your use model and budget if you thinking buying this cosina lens. The Cosina 28-210mm might be used much more often than all other good lens. If you really have money, buy a canon or their good brand to have a 18-300mm for a daily use, providing you are not a professional photographer like me. 2008-11-30

Cosina lenses are more silent that currently top lenses I think, and they "DRAW" softer but picture are sharp. For me price is important because I like to have a lot different lenses. Cosina's lenses prise enable me it. 2008-11-25

I received my order within a couple of days and have used the lense for a wedding and IRL race, so far so good! 2008-07-03
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Very pleased with the price and quality
Been using for family bbq's and for everyday odds and ends. I find this to be a great lens for us "normal" people. For the other reviewer, it is a $100 lens, wake up. If you want "pro" buy one that costs a few hundred more. 2008-06-03
